Please enjoy this main message of the capital campaign titled Imagine…
Lead Pastor Chris Westmoreland takes us on a journey to explore and imagine the future of Long’s Chapel.
Long’s Chapel appeared in an article in The Mountaineer, a local Haywood County newspaper, where the church announced its preparation for a major capital campaign. The campaign is titled “Imagine…” and the church launched the campaign Sunday, April 15, along with a new sermon series titled “Heart of Generosity.”
Immediate release, Waynesville, NC
Long’s Chapel is embarking on a new and exciting journey. Since the inception and establishment of the church in 1859, a great deal has happened. The campus, membership, spiritual growth programs, and community outreach have continued to grow. And now in 2018, the church has launched a capital campaign to again expand the campus to meet the broader needs of the church and community. The theme for the campus expansion is Imagine…
“We are praying and creating space to ‘Imagine’ what God’s future for us will be,” said Chris Westmoreland, senior pastor of Long’s Chapel. “Imagine if we adapt the buildings where we gather as a church in ways that strengthen our community and expand our capacity how much more we could do in service to Christ.”
Long’s Chapel is a community-focused church with a history of active participation in ministries from providing firewood to people in need to helping the homeless, and the proposed expansion could create opportunities to further build community and be in service to the community.
The proposal includes multi-purpose space that will seat 250 at tables and 500 in chairs where church and community events can occur. In addition, the expansion will offer new ministry offices; a café connected to the gathering space where food hospitality can happen; and classroom areas for Bible study, small groups, and education.
One of the church’s greatest strengths is being intergenerational and offering ministries for people of all ages. The Child Enrichment Center is consistently rated best in the county and the expansion will allow the church to welcome those on the waiting list. The church in concert with Haywood County Schools is launching “The Hang Out,” an after-school program. Over the last few years the subsidies for families to assist with after-school care have decreased. This program is an opportunity to fill a need in our community and provide a wonderful experience to build relationships with people who do not currently attend Long’s Chapel. The expansion will allow for more space for events and activities for not only this program but also other youth and community activities.
The church recently launched a new brand and image with a new modern color palette, logo, and tagline. The tagline is Reach. Grow. Serve. This new brand represents the innovation, strength, vision and mission of the church. The expansion will provide the opportunity to Reach others, Grow deeper, and Serve passionately.
Long’s Chapel is ready to take the next step in its journey. We welcome you to join in. We will continue to bring updates on the progress of Imagine. Long’s Chapel is located at 175 Old Clyde Road, Waynesville, North Carolina 28786. Call 828.456.3993 or visit the church at LongsChapel.com/Imagine.

These gatherings were held Wednesday March 14th, Friday the 16th and Saturday morning the 17th provided fellowship, food and refreshments, and a presentation of the expansion of the church campus with a capital campaign that will kick off on April 15, 2018 with a Vision Sunday Celebration. Over 200 church members attended these gatherings.
